OTW, Watchmen, world builder
Ok, couple of things. Mainly because I need to sit down every few minutes at the mo, as I prepare to head off to the Hub 2 - a bit of stomach flu, no real need to worry, and I'm going to bloody well get there, don't you worry!

I've just paid my dues and re-joined the OTW - the Organisation for Transformative Works, a fan organisation that aims to be both accountable and non-profit-making. It wants to give us all the things we as fans have dreamed about over the years, a safe space where we don't have to worry about being TOSsed, a fic archive where we own the servers, a support agency (potentially with money to back us) if we get sued for our fannish activity, an academic journal exploring our efforts. Loads of stuff. I think it's really worthwhile, and this is my annual plug! Go join!

Second, I haven't posted reactions to the Watchmen yet, although there's a lot of it about. I suspect my reactions are very similar to most people's - I did love it. It's not the visceral experience that some have had, but then I didn't get that from the graphic novel either - I read it too late. About ten years too late. I'm so glad they didn't shift the movie from the '80's, because that particular sense of paranoia belongs well and truly in 1985, and it wouldn't work at any other time.

Snippits then: Dr Manhattan has freckled shoulders! Aww, I did like that - although I suspect once he's blue, he doesn't have the freckles any more. Shame. Rorscharch was almost scarily good, as was the Comedian. God, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is fantastic at everything he does - and then he turned up again on this week's Gray's Anatomy as ghostly Denny, and I cried buckets.

And finally, because I probably ought to go pack a bit more, a rec. It's a short film, via by slodwick and omg, that made me cry as well. It's called world builder, and it's a sci-fi movie, a romance, and it's beautiful, all in ten minutes. Watch it.

Thank you for reccing that film, it was wonderful. Have you seen the Rendevous with Rama short? It's stunning.

I have seen Watchmen too, now, and I loved it. The way in which the complicated back story was summarized by the opening montage was particularly impressive. And, as you said, the man who was playing The Comedian was awesome.

Aww - that was sweet! If anything with the Comedian in it could be considered sweet :)
