Merlin
Oh god, I can't start a new fandom, the shiny hasn't worn off Torchwood yet. I haven't time. But they're so *cute* together, so adorable! They're saving each others lives, and they have a SOUL BOND and... I know it's Smallville with magic, but I never really had the Smallville crush - apparently I'm making up for that with Merlin. In spades. *smooshes them*

And there's Lancelot next week! I thought they'd leave him out for a season or so, apparently I was Wrong, So Wrong! He's being played by Santiago Cabrera, from Heroes too. Ooh!

I think I can hear your voice speeding up and rising in volume rapidly as you type this! We haven't started watching this yet, but I think we had better now :)

Oh, I feel smug :) I've been at the Cheltenahm Literary Festival today, and Russell T. Davies totally agrees! I squeed quite hard at sharing a slashy show with RTD :)

I have to say that Merlin is developing into something really quite good. Everybody in it is interestingly pretty (not just "good looking"), they hold the line on the "fantasy England into which pieces of the real intrude" extremely well, and I have enjoyed the developing story, and the slight focus on different characters each week.

And at no point have they broken into, or out of, any castles. Every week.

Exactly! I absolutely adore Merlin's sticky-outy ears! I don't know why the low historical accuracy bothered me in Robin Hoodie, but doesn't bother me at all with Merlin. I think it's because they are not being so consciously tongue in cheek. The whole cast treats all of Merlin absolutely seriously, which is right, I think. And all Arthurian legend is so made up anyway...

They had their first quest this week! A quest! I fully expect a woman called Elaine soon, who'll need rescuing, naturally :)

It's just begging for attention.. you can divide loyalties, it's ok - and very clearly written for fangirls to squee... they want it!

But I don't have time to write the ideas I have bubbling now, if I add Merlin to the mix, nothing will get done! :) My main consolation at the mo is that I haven't been bitten by a plot bunny for Merlin yet, but give it time, I expect...

Hee :-) There seems to be a fandom developing already. It's ridiculously cute and I'm enjoying it far more than I should.

I know! I've joined some communities already, but it's so early... My god, I'm not sure I've ever started at the *very* beginning of any fandom before. I'm ridiculously excited :)

I like Merlin. I find the fact that is is wildy historically inaccurate endearing. :)

Plus there's a dragon. Dragons are good.

Since Malory made it all up anyway, I don't see that it matters. Not to mention that every writer and their mother has rewritten their own version! I like the dragon, but wish it could be a little less cryptic :)

My dad is a big Arthurian legend buff/geek and the deviations from the myth wind him up. It's funny to listen to him :)

Ah! But I have been friends with a number of people studying an Arthurian Literature MSc (they have one in Bangor) so I know precisely how made up it all is! :)

Watched Merlin last night. Santiago Cabrera was gorgeous, as Lancelot.

I am up to date on Merlin now! I am enjoying it hugely. Quite apart from the sheer "aww..." factor (I do not think that I have ever found myself saying that so often at the screen), I am very much liking the complexity of the central characters, especially Gaius and Uther.

In light of our conversation the last time I was in Oxford about the semiotics of cleavage (showing a lot of it tends to mean that one is eveeeeel; witness the witch in the first episode, the villain in Tin Man, Dark Willow, and Helen in S2 of Primeval), is it perhaps a sign of future trouble that we see so much of Morgana's assets, especially in the wonderfully creepy episode with Mordred? Not that I am complaining about that in any way, shape or form, mind.

Now I discover that I not only want to write the Uther-fic I previously mentioned, but also a piece called "An Old Man's Love", exploring the possibilities of Gaius/Geoffrey. It is just such a slashy continuity....
