Yuletide, Sherlock Holmes, Hobbit, XMas etc.
Oh, there's so much to talk about that I'll only skim the surface! First, my Yuletide fic is in as of about an hour ago or so - which is late for me, but I started it late because of finishing dream_holiday yada yada - and I happened to see that there's a greyed out fic waiting for me on AO3, so no fears this year of being last on the pinch hit list :) Speaking of which I've not managed to catch a pinch hit this year - yet. I suspect I may not as my enthusiasm is low, my writing brain was all used up on finishing The Lists of Avalon (my freeform game that ran in November) so I don't feel so bad.

Secondly, if you haven't already seen Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows may I recommend you do so? Especially if you are of a slashy turn of mind and like RDJ even a little? It really is that rare beast, a sequal that is better than the first movie. (So, just this one and... Empire Strikes Back maybe?) I loved every single second of it, really fun - particularly the last action/fight sequence - when you see it you'll know why I loved it so much. Jared Harris made an excellent Moriarty.

Thirdly, OMG how good is the first Hobbit trailer? It really gave me a emotional punch in the stomach. I think a LotR rewatch is in order this Christmas. The trailer made me so excited for the movie at long last - I suspect I'll be dusting off my hobbit fic writing credentials. There may even have to be dwarf slash, or should I stick to RPS, as the safer, saner alternative? :)

What else? There's probably loads, but I'm mentally knackered at the mo. I hope XMas will recharge the batteries - all except for Come hel or Hiawatha, of course, which needs editing in time for it's run at the end of Jan (next freeform game I'm running.) So Happy Christmas, you guys!

Merry Christmas, too! What is "Hiawatha"? Are you all going to have to speak in the metre of Longfellow?

And a Happy New Year! Hiawatha is a freeform for 13 people that I'm running at the end of January. It's Vikings versus Indians - a Greenland clan of Viking go find the New World basically. Good fun to write and hopefully to play!

Two of my (non-slashy) friends went to see Sherlock Holmes 2: Sherlock Holmesier. Apparently, they came out, looked at each other, and simultaneously said, "Did Derry write that?"

I am SO LOOKING FORWARD to being able to see it!

I know! It's like they took a list of my iron clad kinks and then wrote the screenplay based on the list! Fantastic.

no greyed out fic for me! eep!

Sh2 was soooo good. Must. See. Again.

Did you like what you got in the end? I didn't see you on the pinch hit list so you must have been ok eventually...
Malk: Geekerymr_malk on December 22nd, 2011 04:54 pm (UTC)
Oh yes. Hobbity goodness! I went quite tingly all over when I saw that! I mean they even managed to make one of JRR's songs sound cool and evocative, and even the most blindly devoted Tolkienite must admit that this is no mean feat!

Like you, it has put me right in the mood for a revisit of LotR. Having watched it, I clocked a link from Youtube of a video blog that Andy Serkis had made, and caught a fleeting glimpse of Sylvester McCoy, who is apparently playing Radagast (fleeting cameo I daresay, but it pleased me. I wonder if he'll be doing his ferrets-down-the-trousers routine... it wouldn't be entirely out of character with what we know of Radagast...)

Happy Christmas, see you in January. x

If you want to wait a couple of days, we quite fancy a rewatch too, with surround sound and a slightly bigger telly... (29th or 30th or 31st?)

I ended up too busy in the end, but gaspode and gaspodia were talking about arranging a rewatch sometime this month...

Well, never mind then.

We (I went with wickednotevil) went Tuesday. It was awesome. We giggled a lot.

Hooray for Yuletide! I'm working on my pinch hit as we speak. Think I may have to get Mum to beta as it's gen, she knows the fandom and I'm running out of time!

I know! I wish I hadn't been so busy or I'd have wanted to go again.

I did end up doing a pinch hit after all, in one day on the 23rd Dec - best way really, no way to procrastinate! :)

It really is. :) I'm actually toying with only writing treats/pinch hits in 2012. I think it might work!

:D

I really really want to see that film! Maybe if I finish packing to go home, tidying my flat, wrapping presents etc within the next... hour I could sneak off to see it before my sister came to pick me up... Sigh.

And I agree on the Hobbit trailer. It game me shivers down the spine. I might have to rewatch LotR while I'm back at my parents.

Did you get to see it in the end? I didn't manage my LotR rewatch after all, I ran out of days at Christmas and now I'm back at work... :(
EnohIOenigma_o on January 6th, 2012 11:58 am (UTC)
I got to see it and loved it. Though I did find some of the action sequences a bit too jerky to follow.

I didn't manage to watch LOTR either. I completely forgot.

Squeeee for the Hobbit! I bought myself the blueray extended DVD trilogy, so we're doing our annual rewatch right around New Year's day :-)

Re:
What a lovely present to yourself! I haven't actually managed to fit it in yet, but maybe this weekend...

You are the second person whose taste I trust to recommend the new Sherlock Holmes movie. I hope to see it before travelling to Scotland on Wednesday/Thursday. Or possibly whilst I'm there.

I also look forward to reading your Yuletide fic after the reveal. I've had no time to explore the offerings, yet, and I'm dying to read stuff! I'm super pleased with the piece I got, though.

Anyway, Happy New Year! I hope that it's extremely good to you. :)

I hope your trip has been excellent! Have you headed home yet or are you still flitting about? My Yuletide was lovely - I had fic from toft_froggy who is just the best writer and is on my flist! So that was a nice surprise!

I hope you managed to see SH:GoSh in the end? And liked it? I do hope so!
Blackbird Songblackbird_song on January 6th, 2012 12:34 pm (UTC)
I'm in Glasgow right now, and am staying there until Monday. I fly home on Tuesday.

It's lovely to get such a nice thing at Yuletide, especially when you find out that it's someone from your flist! I'm glad that happened for you. I've always received lovely stuff, but not yet from anyone I'd already friended. Maybe one day, though.

I haven't yet seen SH:GoSh, but will do so ASAP. I don't know if it'll still be in theatres when I return, or if it's still around in the UK. I have, however, caught the first ep of the new series of Sherlock on the BBC. I love iPlayer! *g*
