Five Rounds Rapid
*sad* Nicholas Courtney has passed away. He was a stalwart of Doctor Who and a thoroughly lovely chap. The Brig was an icon of my childhood, he will be missed.

Yes, indeed. The Brig was always one of my personal heroes in the show. RIP.

I know! Such a loss. I met him once and he was a lovely man.

I was really sad to hear this earlier. I have been watching a lot of The Brig episodes recently, had quite fallen in love with his ironic eyebrows. He is particularly wonderful in The Three Doctors when he has to deal with Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee at once.

He was such a reasonable chap for a military character - I think it's brilliant that there were any military characters in DW who were portrayed as good guys at all. UNIT has been evil ever since, I believe! It's a sad day.

Oh! That is sad.
He was getting on a bit mind you, but even so, that does feel like another piece of my youth that has gone forever.

I was quite delighted a few months ago, when I recognised him when the kids were watching the Sarah Jane Adventures, reprising his role as the Brigadier. They were perplexed by my enthusiasm.

He was - 81, I believe. And he looked very frail when I saw his last appearance. But even so.

I ws so happy they had him in Sarah Jane - I love that show in many ways more than Dr Who - Who often leaves me feeling faintly irritated with the over-dramatics and plot holes. Sarah Jane Adventures hardly ever suffers from either flaw - it's such a refreshing change!

~is also sad~

Just under 44 years in the Whoniverse, that's quite a run!
His final appearance as the Brigadier, the "Liberty Hall" video short, can (for the moment) be found here on YouTube.

I will have to look at that tonight at home. 44 years isn't a bad run - and to be remembered with such fondness - that's not bad either, when you think about it!

We shall raise a toast to him at the weekend :)

Oh yes, that's a good idea!

Permanately posted to Peru.

Very sad. Met him once, so I have a photo with him.

I did too, but only have an autograph. A lovely man.
