LJs new fail
There's a lot of kerfuffle at the moment over the new buttons for posting comments (even those from flocked posts) to Facebook and Twitter, and I completely sympathise with all the stress. I just want to say that I will never do such a privacy invading thing, and I fully expect that my flist will offer me the same courtesy. OTOH I don't flock much so it will probably not come up a great deal.

Mind you, it did make me consider something else. I hope it's an obvious thing, and that I don't even need to ask, but I would rather people who know me in RL don't link my LJ name to my real name in Facebook or elsewhere - I'm sure this is a no-brainer, but I thought I'd add it here just in case!

Of course. It is "never the twain shall meet" for me, as far as FB and LJ are concerned. I do not want to be outed as the individual who writes fics about girls wrestling naked beneath Roald Dahl Plass. Again.

Again?

Oh dear. Is there a story behind that? I'm sure there is! :)

And I know it's obvious - but netiquette is changing, ans what might seem obvious to us may not be elsewhere in the Internets. It never hurts to be sure.

There is. I had just outed myself as a ficcer to an old friend, who asked whether there was porn involved. I answered (mendaciously) in the negative, but arachnekallisti, who was also there, cited Power Struggle in the case for the prosecution. I have not decided exactly how arachnekallisti is going to pay for this, but rest assured: pay arachnekallisti will.

It's not as if I write porn very often. Apart from that one where Locke shags Ben on a Dharma station floor. Or the one where Suzie takes Gwen on the floor of Jack's office. My porn seems to have a strange affinity for floors in secret bases.

Pft. Facebook! Twitter! A Jedi needs not such things!

I've been seeing a few of these warnings about the place, and finding them quite confusing (rather like an orthodox Jew who has been receiving earnest requests not to dump bacon rind in the compost bin), but if there's the possibility that it might lead to online identities becoming publicly linked to RL identities, I think I see what the fuss is about.

Still, as both Facebook and Twitter lie far beyond my Cold Day In Hell threshold, you may rest easy on my account!

I know - but it doesn't hurt to reiterate the obvious - especially for new peeps for whom netiquette is very different these days. I just thought I'd take the opportunity, as it were.

And I wish LJ would stop cocking up - lots of friends are moving to Dreamwidth, which is all well and good, but I don't like Dreamwidth, and don't know how to program my html mark-up stuff for DW, and it can't give me my icons, or anything really. But I miss the people.

I am not on Facebook and Twitter so I certainly won't be linking anything you post. And like you, I don't want my LJ name linked to my real name.

Well, I am on Facebook and Twitter, and therein lies the problem - especially Facebook, your real name can be linked to all sorts of things on there. I don't really post, but that doesn't stop people, and I'm only on there to stop missing invitations to things - a specific purpose that I thought about hard and do regret as much as appreciate...
