Writer's Block: Animal magnetism
What animal best represents your inner spirit? If you had to wake up as an animal, which one would you choose, and why? Are your two answers the same? Why or why not?

Ah, now in my old role-playing circles that was a common question. Ars Magica calls it a heart-beast, which I think is a much more poetic term. We used to say you couldn't name your own heart-beast, it had to be an animal suggested for you by a friend, and if you didn't dismiss it as preposterous, but instead liked it, and agreed with it, however unlikely the animal - well, then it was your heart-beast!

Mine was a vulture. They are nature's vacuum cleaners, you know. I am therefore unreasonably fond of them as a result :)

My brother once spontaneously asked me to name the first two animals of any kind to come into my mind. If I recall correctly, the first was an owl. The second was definitely a three toed sloth.

He said that he had been reading that the first animal you pick is supposed to be the animal you would like to be associated with. The second is the one that deep down, you know is the real you.

Bastard!

I couldn't say he was a million miles away though!

It's the same kind of idea, isn't it? :) Now I've read about this idea though I'm not sure it counts as something I can legitimately do for myself - until I've forgotten about it again!

Fingers crossed for Sharp for you...

I did think about putting the interpretation in white text and instructions to select it once you had picked your animals, but I'm afraid that when it came down to it, I was tired and couldn't be arsed!

Thanks for the crossed fingers. I have one more character to write up for first draft, and then it's all second drafts and proof-reading. Oh, and writing up the rules and mechanics. And some prop procurement. Oh and printing. I've got a laser printer, so... yeah. Thanks for the crossed fingers!

Aww... what a lovely idea!

My only significant Magus was a Bonisagus, so he did not have a Heart-Beast. Some of the other PCs were Bjornaer, though: two birds of prey and a bear.

Ah, but we did it for real people, so it didn't matter if you actually played Ars M or not in our circle at the time... I will have to think of an animal for you, if I can...
