The Rift
I'm terrible at remembering the details of these things. If I've left loads out that's why! The Rift was a one day Torchwood con, and quite well-organised considering I think this is the first event this team has put togther.

It was a really good day - thanks to smirnoffmule and her sign there were a bunch of fangirls I got chatting to in the queue and that was one thing that made the day great.

Then there were the guests - they were all, without fail, happy and friendly and trying to make things a really good day for everyone.

Special Mentions go to Kai Owen for entertainment beyond the call of duty. He covered for James Marsters after he'd 'eaten a bad prawn' and couldn't do the evening concert. He was rather pissed, didn't know what he was doing, and in normal circumstances that might have been a touch trying, but considering he stepped into the breach and sang beautfully despite it all, made it extremely heart-warming rather than anything else. He also taught us all to say 'Fuck off' in Welsh :)

I thought Eve Myles was at her best in the panel with Kai Owen - she mostly giggled her way through it. She is one of the funniest, most engaging actors it has been my pleasure to meet, and very touchy-feely, she was always hugging in the photoshoot, and grabbing people's hands across the desk while signing. I got both :) I also got a shoulder squeeze just because I smiled at her randomly as she moved past me in a crowd. Lovely lady.

James Marsters was his usual laid-back, funny, charming self. He's unshockable, but dammit, we tried! His autograph line took forever, but that was because he was chatting, properly, with everyone. The panel with Gareth was probably the highlight of the day, for me. There was obviously such genuine warmth there, and Gareth, as we know, is the master of the dry one-liner. James seemed to get that too. Others have quoted it already, but since it truly was the most memorable line of the con, I have to use it too - "I want a Captain sandwich, with a Ianto filling. Toasted."

God - don't we all... :)

And finally, a bunch of us managed to grab Richard Stokes and ask him stuff about next season - his information's a bit out of date, but he does seem to think genuinely that season 3 is 99.9% certain to be greenlit. And my personal little squee - Richard remembered me from San Diego Comic Con last year! I'm amazed. I had managed to have a chat with Chris Chibnall after their panel, but they were both rushed away so fast at the time. I believe Richard said something like 'Oh, yes, I remember you, you were asking Chris some really difficult questions...'

*proud* I was asking him about Owen and the rohypnol spray, at the time...

You missed my posts about it, eh? Yes indeed, you shall! I should be there until about mid afternoon - must check the train times! Wheee, would be lovely to see you again! :D Do you still have my mobile number? Then we can coordinate by text, if we don't just run into each other anyway. Does yours still end in 208?

Say, you did see the post on my LJ, back in January, regarding the NZ trip next summer (2009), right?

Yay! I still have a number for you, it ends in 879, is that right? My number hasn't changed so you've got the right one! I plan on being there early, and to be there until early afternoon, maybe? I'll see you soon! And I did see your post about NZ, but I don't really think I can afford it, I'm afraid...
